This is a biopic about the reign of the present Queen, Elizabeth II. It gives us all a newfound appreciation of the Queen, making dull state matters appear highly gripping and interesting.
The series revolves around the change in Piper’s life when she is caught with a suitcase full of drugs that she was transporting for her fiancé. Her time in prison changes her life completely from the woman who was a law-abiding middle-class New Yorker to someone who is going to do the unthinkable.
This is an animated adult dark comedy-drama where BoJack takes a realistic take on depression, trauma, addiction, self-destructive behaviour and the whole of human existence.
A comedy centred around a female lead, GLOW is short for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling which is an actual cheeseball show from the 80s. Ruth Wilder (played by Alison Brie) whose obnoxiousness prevents her from getting any proper job and so she ends up getting a job at a wrestling show. She learns not only how to wrestle but becomes more tolerable. The goofiness and excitement make it worth a watch.
While Hulu airs the most famous of Margaret Atwood’s novel, The Handmaid’s Tale, Netflix has the production of another of her lesser known novels aired here. Alias Grace is about the accused murderess Grace Marks who has been imprisoned for 15 years and now shall undergo a psychiatric evaluation by Dr. Simon Jordan. From their conversations get unravelled flashbacks from her past which makes the truth further layered. Set in the mid-19th century, this series is also a social commentary.
The drug lord in Colombia, Pablo Escobar and other real life drug kingpins from the 80s are the people around whom this raw original series from Netflix. It shows how wars on drugs were fought, amidst which conflict fell the civilians, military, political and policemen alike.
With funny conversations filled with awkward references to day to day life, this show morphs from its hilarity in season 1 to the protagonist’s love for pasta which sends him on a journey to Italy. It pays homage to Italian films like Bicycle Thief and La Notte. The direction is quite different but you also see the supporting actors grow into ones you don’t want to miss out in the next seasons.
