Well, it was mostly the critics who were responsible for giving the movie a bad name. Fans of the DC Extended Universe believe that it is due to the change of directors, amongst many other reasons, that the movie lost its actual DC kind-of appeal.
Towards the later stages of shooting the film, it became a known fact that the usual DC movies director Zack Snyder had left, leaving the rest of the film in the hands of The Avengers’ director Joss Whedon. Some of the dialogues and acts seem quite unlike DC and more with the Marvel universe kind of humour for the same reason, as fans complained. Whedon became the scapegoat for all that which went wrong in the movie.
Fans believed that they were betrayed and deserved the original DC’s version of the film. They hoped that there would be enough Zack Snyder cuts of the film to heal their wounds. It had become known fact that a lot of scenes had been cut for which the movie was reduced from three hours to the current two hour screen time. It was ardently believed that this “The Zack Snyder Cut” would be the film which everybody wants, was originally planned and meet the expectations of all.
The idea of the cut actually comes from that in 2006 which was released of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. While the original was a classic, this new one contained alternate takes, re-edited scenes, test footage, painful jokes instead of the good ones, etc. So, there is a fair warning here from history to those who wish for the Snyder cut, just in case their faith in Snyder is not up to the mark and they are dismayed further. But keeping in mind their trust in Snyder as well, there is a chance it will not be much different either.
There have been campaigns and what not but both Warner Bros. and Snyder himself have declared that there is no point of it all, that nothing shall be released and all the rough cuts were never meant for leaving the cutting room. It was also told to Wall Street Journal by a representative that Snyder himself has never watched the theatrical cut of Justice League released. There is no basis for it to even exist in totality and only speculation based on Snyder’s usual habits to keep a cut.
