“I’m going to need you to repeat that one more time sir.” As he speaks, the grey-haired man takes a step closer to the table. “I couldn’t quite make out what you said.”
“I said, I do not remember anything.” Sebastian does not know how much longer he can keep this up. He and this man, who claims his name is Agent Hale, have been going back and forth for what seems like hours. There was no way to know for sure though.
Interrogation rooms do not have clocks.
“I’m not sure you understand what you are saying.” Sebastian can tell Agent Hale is aggravated. He is too. Agent Hale has been asking a lot of questions and he has given him no answers. “You’re telling me that the last thing you can remember is going to sleep on January 6th,1998.”
“Yes. That is all I can remember.”
“That is not humanly possible! The last day you remember occurred a century ago!”
“I am telling you the truth!” His wrists strain against the handcuffs as Sebastian slams his fists down on the table. He is tired and wants nothing more than to go home and go to bed; wherever home is.Agent Hale clenches his fists, trying to keep from punching the man sitting across from him. As he speaks, he leans forward so his face is inches from Sebastian, “You honestly expect anyone to believe that?” The chains attached to the table make a clinking noise as they are stretched to their allowed length. Agent Hale backs away feigning a laugh. Sebastian slumpedagainst the chair in defeat. How was he supposed to get these cantankerous people to believe him when he can not believe himself. The last thing Sebastian remembers is coming home from school. He wanted to play a video game, but could not find it because his desk was a mess. That night, he went to bed early. When he woke up, he was no longer in his bed but in, what he assumed was, an amusement park. He had never seen anything as breathtaking as this place, at least that he could remember. Streets were no longer on the ground, but suspended in the air. Everything, it seemed, was in the air. Vehicles flew above the city alongside the planes that were used for nothing more than advertising. The buildings were shaped in ways that were normally only seen on cartoons. Sebastian was awoken on a bench outside the government building. Agent Hale had been on his way to work and found him. Had it not been for Agent Hale, perhaps Sebastian could have been exploring this miraculous place. Trying to remember the life he was compelled to forget.
The stars shined brightly, illuminating the faces of the group of girls that were walking towards them. Sebastian's friend looked at him, a diabolical smile plastered on his face. He smiled along with his friend, playing his part so no one got suspicious. Once the girls were far enough away, Sebastian and his friend began to follow them. They were shadows lurking in the night; following the girls that were oblivious to what Sebastian and his friend had planned from them. The lights blinded them as they followed the girls into a club. Sebastian went to get him and his friend a drink so they would fit in as they watched the girls. They sipped their drinks and watched the girls dance. Sebastian felt a sudden paroxysm of jealousy. He would give anything to be able to be as free as those girls. Once the girls have had enough, Sebastian and his friend followed them outside. When they were far enough away from preying eyes, Sebastian and his friend cornered the girls in an alley. As the girls backed up against the wall in fear, Sebastian felt something in the pit of his stomach. What it was, he did not know. All he knew was that these innocent girls were about to become victims to his friends enigmatical actions. He watched as his friend tipped one of the girls heads back, revealing the veins. Sebastian smelt the blood and with a snap his fags came out. Sebastian’s friend went first. He tipped his head and bit the girl's neck. The girl was nearly drained of blood before his friend stopped and motioned for Sebastian to have a taste of her friend. Having no choice but to oblige, Sebastian tipped the girl's neck and bit her.Sebastian hears a ripping sound as the only piece of linen on his makeshift bed rips in half because of his violent movements. He sighs in frustration, trying his best to disentangle himself from the sheets without ripping them more. Sebastian makes his way across his cell to the box in the glass where a tray of food is waiting for him. The food is cold by now but he does not care. It feels like it has been a century since Sebastian has eaten real food; for all he knows it could be.
“Hello Sir. My name is Doctor Holly. I am your new therapist.” She makes her way over the chair that is across from Sebastian as she speaks. “I’m going to start by asking you a few simple questions. Do you think you can handle that?” Once she sees him nod,she begins to speak again, “Can you start by telling me your name?” Sebastian does not answer. After that dream last night, he does not think telling these people his name will help him in any way. If they know his name, they can most likely figure out everything he can not remember. If they figure that out, Sebastian is never getting out of this veritable prison. “I uh... I can not remember.” Doctor Holly gives him a look that he can not quite make sense of. “Sir,” as she speaks, she leans forward and places her hands on her knees. “I want you to know that you can tell me anything. Everything you say in here stays between us.”Sebastian fights the urge to laugh. He knows for a fact that the mirror on the left wall is one way glass. How he knows that, he does not know, but he is glad he does. Agent Hale is most likely behind that glass and Sebastian does not trust that man. When she gets no answer, Doctor Holly leans back in her chair and stares at Sebastian. After a few minutes of uncomfortable silence, Doctor Holly whispers, “I know you think we are all monsters here. We aren’t. Agent Hale has just had a bad year. I want you to know that we are trying to help you,but in order to do that, we are going to need you to cooperate.” With that, she gets up and walks out the door, leaving Sebastian in the room alone.
As he made his way towards the house, the girl started to wake up. She was weak and delirious due to the lack of blood. The rest of the way to the house, the girl kept babbling and playing with Sebastian's short hair. Once they were on the on the porch, Sebastian put her down and helped her lean against the beam so she could stand. He knew what he needed to do, but it was hard for him to do it. Anyone could be watching. Even worse, his friends could find out. Sebastian was not supposed to do what he was doing. He was supposed to leave his prey for dead; not bring them home and compel them to forget. Sebastian bit his wrist then put it against the girl's mouth. She began to drink instantly. Within minutes she was standing on her own and talking normal. Finally being able to make sense of her situation, the girl began to struggle. Sebastian grabbed her by her shoulders and turned her so she was face to face with him. He looked into her eyes and compelled her to forget meeting him and his friend. Sebastian told her that she went to the club with her friends then walked home and went to bed. He let go of the girls shoulders and watched her walk into her house. Sebastian was woken up by Agent Hale pounding on the glass. “Wake up! Get up and put these clothes on! We have something planned for you today.” He then walks away, leaving Sebastian to get dressed and wait for the guards to come get him. The way he is treated makes it seem as though he is a psychotic murder, whichhe would have believed yesterday, but after last nights dream, he is not quite sure anymore. The guards bring him to a room with a sign on the door that is labeled authorized personnel only. A feeling of uneasiness washes over Sebastian. Doctor Holly opens the door and instructs the guards to hook Sebastian up to the machine in the middle of the room. When he is hooked up and everything is ready, Sebastian is given a sedative so that he will not be able to fight when they go digging through his mind trying to see his dreams. He knows better than to fight. He was outnumbered and knows he would never be able to find his way out of this building. Doctor Holly is talking to him, but Sebastian is having a hard time concentrating. He can feel his mind slipping into unconsciousness. The sedative is working fast.
“ Do you know why you are here?” A voice asks. Sebastian was sitting in a chair in the middle of his circle of friends. His handswere handcuffed behind his back and his legs were lied to the legs of the chair. The people around him were not happy and that could only mean one thing, “Someone saw me.” The men nodded and took a step closer, tightening the circle. “You do know whathappens when someone goes against us. Don't you?” Sebastian smiles and nods. They are given the cure. The liquid that cures themfrom this horrible curse. Only, to most of his friends, it was not a curse but a blessing. It took Sebastian a century to understand how anyone could think that needing to kill humans to survive is a blessing. It was not the killing that they liked, it was the speed. The ability to make any human forget and/or do anything they desire. It was the other powers that made needing blood to survive seem not so bad. One man stepped forward and pulled a vial out of his pocket. “Farewell Sebastian Cross.” Sebastian’s mouth was held open as the man dumped the liquid from the vail into his mouth.
“You heard it just as I did, Agent. ‘Farewell Sebastian Cross.’ He is Sebastian Cross.” “That is impossible!” Agent Hale slams his fists down on the table as he shouts. “He is a monster! He drinks human blood! You saw it, Doctor. He is a monster!” Doctor Holly laughs. “Now tell me Agent, why would a monster show mercy to his prey? Why would a monster risk exposing his kind just to give his prey a chance at life?” When he does not answer, she continues, “Sebastian Cross is no monster. He is aHero. Therefore, he should be rewarded.” “You don’t know what you are doing. You are wrong about him.” Doctor Hale whispersas a warning. Doctor Holly pushes away from the table and stands, she has had enough of hisattitude. She turns to the guards and says, “If you would follow me gentlemen, we have a young man to reward.”
