People normally have a honeyed relationship with their mum and dad. However, I am the exception. If my grandma is a kangaroo, I should be the little one inside her bag. We have such chummy relationship because I live with her since I was a newborn baby.
Well, I would like to begin by telling you that my grandmother was born and lived in a village in TamilNadu India. Back then it was a very small village with only a few houses. My Grandmother named “Pown” only went to school up to the age of twelve years. My grandmother married to my grandfather at the age of 20 in a big family in another village who lived with grandparents, grandfather’s sisters and their children’s along with my father and his brother. In early stage like 1960s village don’t have Gas stoves my grandmother cook food with wood for all and to bath all children’s and clean up grandparents who are in very old stage .My grandparents did not own a car but own bullock cart. However they did own buffalos. They would use them as the mode of transportation in the bullock cart. They would also use the buffalos to help them plough the fields. My grandmother will clean the buffaloes and give food like paddy straws along with the above daily work. Also in the earlier stage village people will go long and fed water from common well and bring to house my grandmother did the same thing. The whole family including my grandmother had to help in the fields
My grandma has short, curly and dense hair with black color even though she is nearly 65. She loves laugh especially on jokes I made. When she is laughing, her eyes look like a pair of rainbow. Because of her optimistic personality, my home is harmonious and full of laughter all the time. I was affected a lot by my cheerful grandma.
My Grandmother is a woman of extreme strength, courage and love, who was beautiful, soft and now peaceful and free as a dove.
Such a Great Grandmother will spend lot of time with me in the busy schedule to tell stories and give more confident and she is not a Grandmother she is “A Friend…” I am not in the position to express here.
At my young age, she taught me that it is good to be brave, follow your heart and never give up no matter there is any difficulty discouraging you. For example, when I feel disappointed with the poor examination result, she would give me a hug with a sweet smell of rose came from her favorite hand cream, however, said with fish like smell (as she loves eat fish so much):
She is very talented who take of our Family for more years. Her hard work and success in her business has motivated me to be the same way in my life. Without my grandmother I would have not won prizes in many competitions.
From her pair of rough and dry hand as well as the humpback, I could feel how hard she is in her life especially the efforts on my growth.
Memories:
Every year, I used to go to grandmother’s home during summer holidays with my parents. My grandmother will take us to the famous temple in our native every week.
She cook lot of varieties food for me daily. She had a special gift: she always cared about everybody else and helped others in every way. She could and always put her interests last.
We are a big family hence, everyone with my father’s aunties and their children used to gather with their kids during the holiday season. It’s also a season of Mangoes. My Grandmother all mangoes were put in huge aluminum containers to wash them off and she start distribute one by one and we ate mangoes all day long. It was so much fun. Running around with cousins, playing various games, and enjoying the essence of summer-Mangoes.
I should have no worry as my grandmother always stays behind me during my hard time.
I am a lucky girl because I had grandma to be my role model showing me the things not mentioned in the textbook but I should bear in mind.
Death:
All of sudden I did not expect this to happen. It is too early, too soon. The day of Relay for Life, my grandmother was not feeling too good. She had a hard time breathing, and feeling sick was not something my grandma was used to and within a short period of days she died. The day shocked me a lot.
Even though she is not at home in my native, I will be lucky enough to visit my Grandmother native house to see her beautiful homeland. When I visit my Grand Mother House I always got below lines as a “POEM” in my mind
“God saw my grandmother getting tired and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around my grandmother and whispered,
“Come to Me”
Life has dealt you lot of cards, some winning, others bad,
And tides have brought in waves of memories: both happy and sad.
You've endured many heartaches-oh, the world is so unkind!
Your speech is confident, your eyes are soft and your walk is hard and bold
your laugh equals happiness, your heart contains love, and hides the stories untold.
It's funny how you hold the family's fear within your palm!
I can't imagine a gift greater than you-your love is Heaven sent.
Thank you God for my great-Grandma. And thank you God that she got to spend time with me. ”
I miss my Grandmother “Pown” Lot!
