English FIFA World Cup 2018 - Russia Squad: Young, Athletic and Energetic

The Three Lions have announced their 23 man squad for FIFA World Cup 2018. With Harry Kane leading the pack, Gareth Southgate has chosen a nice balance of youth and experience this time around. 

 

 

English Manager in his press update said, “We have a lot of energy and athleticism in the team, but players that are equally comfortable in possession of the ball and I think people can see the style of play we’ve been looking to develop.

“It is a young group, but with some really important senior players so I feel the balance of the squad is good, both in terms of its experience, its character and also the positional balance.”

England has Belgium, Panama and Tunisia in their group with the matches on 18th, 24th and 28th of June. The matches will be held at Volgograd (45,568 capacity), Nizhny Novgorod (44,899 capacity) and Kaliningrad (35,212 capacity). 

 

 

England is among favourites to qualify for the next round with ease. 

Some interesting stats are that this squad has just 449 caps between them - an average of 19.5 only. They also have just three tournament goals between them: Danny Welbeck at Euro 2012, and Jamie Vardy and Eric Dier at Euro 2016.

England has certainly taken some bold decisions about how they select their squad and what do they expect from their players.
